Close Oyster Creek

Ask Governor Corzine to close Oyster Creek

An accident at Oyster Creek would cause tens of thousands of cancer cases and affect people up to fifty miles away. But, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission continues to ignore concerns about the plant and continues to move ahead with the relicensing process.

Sign the petition below asking Governor Corzine to ensure the safety of all New Jerseyans and people that love the Shore by calling for the plant’s closure.

Petition Text

Oyster Creek Nuclear Plant is the nation's oldest nuclear power plant, and its current permit is set to expire in 2009. The plant's operator has applied for a 20 year licence extension, making New Jersey the national test case for a 60 year old nuclear reactor.

Corrosion of the containment liner and terrorism both create an unacceptably high risk of a major accident at the plant. Such an accident threatens more than one million New Jersey residents in the fifty mile radius of the plant.

For these reasons, I urge you to oppose the relicensing of Oyster Creek and call on the Nuclear Regulatory Comission and Exelon to close the plant on schedule in.
