New Jersey’s Turnpike, Parkway and Expressway belong to the public. We urge you not to sell them off in a deal that puts the public’s interest at risk.
If you continue to explore “monetizing” these public assets, we call for complete transparency and accountability in the process. And in any deal, you must not relinquish public control of transportation policy, or compromise our roads’ state-of-the-art safety and maintenance standards. Finally, you must get a fair price; Indiana and Chicago were paid billions too little for their roads.
If you do find a way to do a deal that protects the public, then you must spend the money wisely. Don’t use proceeds as a way to finance the state’s short-term budget spending. We are tired of budget gimmicks.
