NJPIRG compiles legislative scorecards for all members of the New Jersey Legislature and for New Jersey’s entire Congressional delegation. Scorecards are based on each legislator’s votes on key environmental, consumer and good government legislation during the past two years. Specifically, we select votes that reflect our priority issues; our current priorities are described below. Our scorecards make it easy for New Jersey citizens to hold their elected officials accountable by providing these essential voting records in an easy-to-use, integrated, nonpartisan format.

 

NJPIRG Citizen Lobby is one of the state’s largest advocacy groups, working for the public interest on behalf of our 25,000 members. Our mission is to deliver persistent, results-oriented public interest activism that protects our environment, encourages a fair, sustainable economy, and fosters a responsive, democratic government. We uncover threats to public health and well-being and fight to end them, using the time tested tools of investigative research, media exposés, grassroots organizing, advocacy and litigation.

 

This year, NJPIRG is working to accomplish these state level priorities:

• Clean up unhealthy pollution from diesel trucks and buses
• Increase state protection of water resources
• Promote clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency
• Conserve natural resources and limit sprawling development
• Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from cars and power plants to reverse global warming
• Limit exposure to toxic chemicals and promote Chemical Plant Security
• Find solutions to skyrocketing drug prices and protect patients from unsafe drugs
• Protect consumers from energy service rate hikes
• Require financial institutions to better protect consumers’ privacy
• Protect consumers from bad deals, defective products and profiteering
• Revitalize our democracy through campaign finance reform and increased voter participation in elections
